WingSwept Communications, Inc., Supplements Staff Through Internship Program

RALEIGH (June 12, 2006) - WingSwept Communications, Inc., a leading information technology services consulting company, has added an intern this summer to supplement its staff. Each intern completes a rigorous on-the-job training course to prepare for full-time employment in the Web development and computer science fields.

Danielle Sheets, a junior in the Computer Science program at North Carolina State University is working with WingSwept as developer intern this summer. Danielle recently completed N.C. State's advanced computer science course that WingSwept co-developed and taught with Department of Computer Science lecturers Jason Maners and Carol Miller this past academic year.

With a strong belief in grooming future talent, WingSwept President Jay Strickland began working with N.C. State computer science faculty in 2004 to establish WingSwept's recruiting program. While the program produced outstanding talent, Strickland realized that the young professionals required skills that weren't available through the university's computer science curriculum. He proposed the creation of an advanced computer science course, which the university introduced last fall for students that had completed their first two computer programming courses.

Strickland, a 1997 N.C. State graduate, feels fortunate to partner with his alma mater and use the course as a "proving ground" to produce computer science interns and graduates ready to tackle real-world applications.

"At WingSwept, we are always scanning the horizon for the talented Web programmers, developers and graphic designers of tomorrow," Strickland said. "Rather than limit candidates to a single semester of career development, we seek opportunities to work with emerging talent to encourage ongoing professional development. When we find promising candidates, it's definitely a win-win situation for all of us."
